One of the things I love about working on Simply Peachy is that on my daily hunt for inspirations, I often chance upon things that are so beautiful that it literally takes my breath away. This happened recently when I stumbled on an utterly divine treasure tucked away in the quaint streets of Happy Valley – Vivian Luk Atelier.
Vivian, who worked in New York under none other than the Queen of Bridal herself (yes Vera Wang!), returned to Hong Kong a few years ago bringing along her passion for designing to bring us lucky girls in Hong Kong, her very own collection of exquisite bridal and evening gowns. Vivian creates one-of-a-kind pieces where each style is unique in its design and aesthetic and most importantly, created with the aim of reflecting each individual in every way possible. Vivian’s Atelier is an intimate one – so much so, it allows her to work closely with her clients and in-house team to give them that perfect bespoke experience as well as create the perfect customised gown that ticks all the boxes.
Lucky for me, Vivian was a complete darling to speak with and was so very kind to show me around her beautiful Atelier, which believe me, was the most inspiring space. Between Vivian’s handwritten inspirational quotes and beautiful sketches pinned on the walls, the colourful organzas so gracefully draped on her gorgeous chaises, the framed embroideries perfectly displayed, the mannequins wearing gowns that whilst not yet finished were still so jaw-droppingly beautiful and her stunning statement bridal and evening gowns hung all around the Atelier – there was no nook or corner which did not fit the definition of inspiring. I’m so glad Jada of Jada Poon Photography was with me to capture all the prettiness on camera!
What I was most in awe of during my time spent with Vivian at her Atelier was her artistic use of intricate draping and feminine detailing. I quietly watched Vivien work during my visit and was blown away at the transformation of a gown with just touch of graceful asymmetrical draping. It was almost magical watching her hands at work folding, pinning and draping.
I love how each of Vivian’s gowns boasts a kind of romantic and sensual feeling that you almost only ever feel from movies. Her use of deep folds and draping make each piece so bold yet soft and make you feel like, once worn, the gown will be completely and utterly in tune with your body’s movement. I can almost imagine what it would be like to wear one of Vivian’s creations down the aisle and just twirl around on the dance floor in it. I don’t even think words like stunning, graceful, ethereal and romantic would do Vivian’s gowns justice.
If you’re looking for a gown, be it a bridal or evening gown, that makes a profound and lasting impression or if you’re yearning for an unforgettable bespoke experience that you’ll appreciate for years to come, you’ll want to pay Vivian and her Atelier a visit. Vivian’s gowns are the embodiment of beauty and her dedication to help you realise your dreams for that once-in-a-lifetime gown is truly beautiful.
