It’s no secret that I can easily get swept off my feet upon receipt of a beautiful invitation or a lovely handwritten note in the mail. So when I came first came across Kathryn Green and her beautifully whimsical watercolour wedding invitations at One Fine Day, I immediately felt weak at the knees. Kathryn creates the most beautiful stationery pieces ranging from save the dates to programs to seating charts to wedding invitations to maps to thank you cards, all of which are unique and completely personal to your big day. If, for your wedding or next event, you’re looking for something beautifully bespoke, different and super personalised, you should definitely look up Kathryn. Lucky for us, Kathryn is here today to share a little bit about her work so don’t go anywhere peachies!
So, how did this all start Kathryn? Tell me a little bit about yourself.
I have always illustrated but never as a serious ‘real’ job. It wasn’t until I decided that working as an Interior Architect was very over rated and I knew that working for myself would be a life time of satisfaction and enjoyment. The decision was made and Kathryn Lee became Kathryn Green (I was lucky enough to bag the man of my dreams and marry him) and the beginnings of my little brand began. Firstly with a lot of jobs for friends that really enabled me to find a platform and get my name out there, referral in this business is amazing and 18 months on I entirely rely on it still to this day. My core business is in Bridal but I am often commissioned for commercial pieces too. My illustrations are made with watercolour and ink, it has taken me a long time to really develop my skill but I think this is something that never ends – the life of an artist is constantly evolving.
What do you love about your work?
I can confidently say I am in love with my job, I feel so blessed to be able to create one of a kind artworks for loved up couples that truly bring something special to their romantic journey.
What can your couples expect once they decide they want one of your beautiful creations?
I always tell new couples that it’s like commissioning your own artist to create personal and unique pieces that reflect their individuality. Most invitations end up being framed by the couple and often kept by guests. We work in a very holistic method from design concept, illustration, layout, print, packaging and delivery to the client’s door. All that is left for the client to do is seal the envelopes and pop a stamp on – voila!
Are there any limitations on what you can create for your couples?
Nothing is impossible and we always love any ideas couples may have, it’s all about pushing the creative boundary and meeting the client’s needs at the same time. Now that the world of the wedding has decided to let its hair down and is no longer confined by a set of predictable rules anything is possible – this itself is one of the many reasons why I love the industry more than ever! It’s just so exciting!
What is the turnaround time for your pieces?
Our turn around time is a minimum of 4 ‐6 weeks but this will vary according to availability. In order to maintain a level of service we take on a limited amount of brides each year. Due to this demand we are in the throws of working on our first collection to be launched mid year – so stay tuned!
