Guest Post | 5 Ways to Feel Relaxed for your Engagement Shoot by Darren LeBeuf

Today’s top tips comes from the talented Darren of Darren LeBeuf Photography who is sharing 5 ways on how to feel relaxed for your engagement session. Important stuff peachies!

As a photographer I have seen many people who feel very comfortable in front of the camera. I have also seen a lot of people who are not. An important part of what I do is to help people feel comfortable when I photograph them, so that they can relax and have a good time. But what can you do yourself to help prepare? Here are few things that I have seen helpful:

Occasionally take deep breaths. It sounds all too simple, but when you consciously take a moment to take a deep breath in, and a slow deep breath out, you will be amazed how much your face will relax, even parts of your face that you didn’t even realize were tense.

Laugh – a lot. Engagement shoots are not supposed to be work. They should be an amazing experience that you share with your fiance, and an opportunity to really appreciate each other. You two know how to make each other laugh more than anyone. Have fun; a real laugh looks way better than a fake smile.

Let the shoot happen naturally. There is a time in the near future where the photo shoot is already done – you had a great time and your photos look amazing. Imagine that it was fantastic. Think of the best possible scenario. Now all you have to do is play it out.

Ease into it. I always tell my clients that I dont expect to get anything for the first 15 minutes or so – this time is spent to warm up, let any initial tensions relax, and get into a groove. I know that if I expect too much of my clients to quickly, it will not be fun for anyone, and so I always take it as slow as needed.

Choose the right photographer. Being able to laugh with your photographer does wonders to relieve any tension you might have. Choose a photographer that you have a good rapport with. Even if his price is a little higher than others that you have seen, in the end it is worth the extra investment.

There is a good chance that you and/or your fiancé might still feel a little nervous when it comes time for your shoot, and that is perfectly normal – even as the photographer I get a little nervous at the beginning too, but soon enough we are having a great time, and the couple have nearly forgotten that they are being photographed.
