All You Need To Know About Bridal Lingerie by Sheer

I often get a lot of brides asking me what kind of lingerie works best with their wedding gown but unfortunately, I’m no lingerie expert. So today, I have Lisa from Sheer to tell you everything you need to know about bridal lingerie and what lingerie styles and pieces work best for the varying styles of wedding gowns.

Hello brides-to-be! You’ve spent hours laboring over wedding gown choices and have finally picked the perfect one, but what lingerie will work with your dress? Finding the right underthings will enhance your best features (or hide whatever you need to hide!) because the last thing you need on your special day is to feel uncomfortable or commit a fashion faux pas!

Remember these tips when you head out to your favorite lingerie boutique:

  • If possible, bring your wedding or evening gown
  • If not, bring front and back photos
  • Go shopping when it’s close to your wedding date as your bra size may change if you slim down

What lingerie should be worn with a wedding dress?

It depends on your type of dress! Your dress is just as unique as you are so your lingerie should be the same.

For a structured strapless gown, the best solution is a fitted corset. Be sure to find a high-quality corset with steel boning and not plastic, as plastic warms up with your body heat over time and the boning will warp to dig in in the most uncomfortable places.

Slinky, silky gowns need something smooth and seamless underneath, so opt for a pretty ivory strapless bra and matching French brief.

Grecian-inspired low V-neck gowns show off your décolletage but needs the proper plunging push up bra to create the effect.

An open-back gown is ultra seductive and glamourous, but requires an adhesive bra to leave your backside open for admirers. The NuBra adhesive bra is made with the highest quality and strongest adhesive so it’ll stay put from day to night. They come extremely lightweight with a seamless fabric exterior and either push-up or underwire options depending on your bra size.

Should I wear Shapewear under my gown?

By all means if you think you need it! Shapewear comes in many different styles and strength of supports so it can simply smooth out lines or give you killer curves. The most common forms are Bodysuits, High-Waist Shorts or Hip-Hugging Skirts.

What kind of lingerie should I wear on my honeymoon?

Curating your bridal trousseau is the most exciting part of all! Whether you’re going on a fabulous trip to Paris or a sun-filled getaway to the Maldives, your honeymoon is a once in a lifetime chance to make a lasting impression that will linger in his memory for years to come.

That being said, let’s start with the night-of which shouldn’t be forgotten! End the night on a high note with a statement piece “I DO” thong and a soft and lovely babydoll.

For daytime lingerie, go for light fabrics like lace and satin and soft colours like pastel pinks, ivory or “something blue”.

For dinner and dancing, opt for lush, darker colours like deep burgundy, purple or black. You can never go wrong with a lacy black set!

Romantic nights deserve romantic silk nighties, pyjamas or bralette sets.

And for the more “eventful” nights, try something with ribbons or suspender belts that’s both playful and fun.
