Weddings like Lucy and Mathieu’s sweet and cheery one make me smile. From the whimsical hair wreaths to the gorgeous Grace Loves Lace gown, the pretty doily and lace details, the lace canopy, the fingerprint tree and cake topper garland – every little detail made for the perfect bohemian, outdoor, relaxed and intimate celebration. Both the ceremony and reception took place in a remote west coast beach called Whatipu and I’m sure you’d agree with me it most definitely was a great place to gather their close friends and family to celebrate their love. Guests even camped and stayed in cabins – how fun is that? So grab a cup of tea and join me in soaking up these beautiful images from Johanna Macdonald Photography.
Thank you Johanna for sharing this gorgeous wedding with me and congratulations to Lucy and Mathieu!
Bride, Lucy shares, “Mathieu & I met over 8 years ago at art school, I’m now a Photographer and he’s a Photography Teacher. We wanted somewhere beautiful to get married, and obviously have wicked photos! One of my best friends, Jo, captured the feeling and intimacy so well- she’s simply amazing. The hard part is choosing which photos to print now! We got married in Whatipu – a wild, remote west coast beach an hour from Auckland City. Mat & I have hiked alot along that coast line, and I grew up near a black sand beach so it seemed perfect. Whatipu Lodge is one of the oldest homesteads in New Zealand and has an ‘eclectic’ range of rooms that have hardly been changed since the 1860’s. Most of our friends and family traveled from other countries, so we wanted to have a ‘Weekend Wedding’ where everyone could relax and stay a couple of nights- some of them stayed in the lodge and others camped, so we all felt like we were on holiday! It also meant we didn’t race off straight away and got to spend as much time possible with everyone. We had close family make a dish with a rustic Italian theme where loved ones could eat delicious home cooked food at leisure and lounge on the grass bank with a vino! The day was beautiful and we both couldn’t of wished for a more stunning atmosphere, people, weather, music … and cocktails!”
