Remember Christina and Derrick’s too-sweet-for-words Sydney engagement session by Anna Zhu Photography & Film I shared a few weeks ago? Well, today I am still crushing on this super sweet and stylish couple and am back to share their intimate wedding that was filled with so many gorgeous personal touches. Between Christina’s impeccable style as shown by the beautifully chic and classic gown she designed herself (omg) and Derrick’s fun and quirky personality, this super sweet duo sure know how to make a wedding their own and enjoy every little bit of it. I just love it when I get the chance to trawl through a set of photographs that have me grinning from ear to ear – whether it’s the gorgeous images or the abundance of beautiful details. Anna’s photography did just that and literally blew me away with her sweet and soft capture of Christina and Derrick’s undeniable love for one another. Click here to see even more.
Christina shares the inspirations behind their gorgeous day… “Derrick and I met at university, studying the same degree in design together. Having studied design, we’re both big fans of simplicity, so we approached the wedding planning as just an opportunity to hold classic, simple day where guests could feel relaxed, eat great food and enjoy themselves. This is why we had the ceremony on the verandah of the house I grew up in and just let the backdrop of the garden do most of the decorating for us.”
I was pretty picky about my dress! I had trouble finding anything that I liked so I designed it myself and had it made, going for a tulle ballgown with silk chiffon top and no adornments at all – the main thing was that the lines of the dress worked. My gorgeous bridesmaid had a contact who also made my shoes for me, bespoke with my and Derrick’s names inside.
I am so in love with Christina’s gown!
And our wonderful photographer! We got the photos whilst on honeymoon in Paris and spent a long morning just flicking through and seeing wonderful shots of moments that had been captured for us that we other wise wouldn’t have been able to see. The more formal shots also still had a wonderful dreamy, elegant feel without being contrived at all. Then followed messages from thrilled parents and parents in law who also loved them. I think a lot of people appreciated the elegant casualness as a fresh change from some of the usual, stiffer, wedding photography you see. Of course the service was wonderful. Anna was great in pointing out some factors to think about to achieve great photos what we hadn’t even thought of. Derrick and I felt that our photographers had all the details nailed and achieved great coverage of the events and mood of the day. And of course, everything was delivered on time and to the highest standard.
From Anna: “I’m lucky to know Christina and Derrick from uni, individually before they started dating. It’s been wonderful to watch their relationship grow, and of course their ceremony was one of the most emotional I’ve ever attended.”
