A Carnival Inspired Sydney Wedding by Lara Hotz Photography

When I stumbled upon this ridiculously adorable carnival themed wedding, I let out a little scream. I just loved everything about this wedding from the bride’s relaxed style to the gorgeous colour palette of mint, blush, peach and yellow to the fun giant balloons and beautiful florals. It’s a wedding made especially for those fun couples – you know, the ones who aren’t afraid to let their hair down, be themselves and have a little fun with their big day. With all darling details perfectly captured by Lara Hotz Photography, this little gem is definitely going to make you smile today.

Bride Claire shares, “Nathan & I met at a speed dating evening in Sydney, 9 years ago! I am from the UK and hadn’t been in Australia for more than a month before I laid eyes on this gorgeous Australian man! It was my birthday & we went for a walk down to Bradleys Head, whilst on the walk Nathan popped the question. It was low key, sweet & special.”

“We both decided that we would some how send a message to each other on the day. I had silver shirt stays made with a personalised message on them for Nathan. Nathan sent me the sweetest love note.”

“I saw the style of wedding gown I thought I’d like in a magazine at the beginning of the ‘research phase’. I visited only a few designers and narrowed it down to just 2 dresses. It then took a ton of deliberation to decide on THE one as the dresses were quite different. In the end I opted for the soft, elegant Lisa Gowing dress as it just felt right. It also came in a very pale rosewater colour which I liked.”

“Our flowers were just so beautiful, I loved the way they looked in disarray and were not perfect which was exactly what I wanted. They were a riot of colour, texture and sizes given them such interest.  The Sisters also created a beautiful heart shaped wreath for us which was just amazing. We were blown away.”

“I am really creative and developed three themes for the wedding! Nathan & I chose the one I named ‘Romance at the Carnival’ which is what we loosely based the wedding around. It was old world like but most of all fun – which is how we wanted to day to be. It consisted of pastel brights with mint playing the lead. I shared the mood board with this email.”

“My most memorable moment was when my Dad & I arrived at the ceremony and we were preparing to start the walk down the aisle. I caught a glimpse of Nathan & the guests and the realisation that it was actually happening. It was a whoosh of excitement but also nerves at the same time!”

“My four favourite details of the day were the chalk writing on the windows at the Q Station, our giant balloons, which really summed up the feeling of the day and looked great, our cake and our heart wreath.”

“We incorporated DIY elements into our wedding and they mostly involved paint! For our place-settings we purchased ceramic feathers from Have You Met Miss Jones and dipped them in paint and some in antique glitter, we then attached a home created name card to them. They added colour to the table & were quite the talking point with guests even trying to steal other peoples! We also painted jars which The Sisters (our florists) then used to create their beautiful flowers arrangements.”

“The thing I found hardest was once a decision had been made about things such as colours, invitation style etc continuing to look at options meaning you questioned if you had made the right decision. My advice to couples planning their wedding would be to go wide in the beginning & soak up as much inspiration as possible, then reign it in choosing what you truly love. Once the decision is made don’t go back, everything will fall together. Oh, and, start any DIY projects as soon as you are able to, it’s amazing how quick the time goes when the date gets closer – it creeps up on you!”
