After a botched beach proposal that turned into a sweet impromptu proposal in their shared home, Marley and James set about throwing the destination of their dreams in sunny Bali and boy oh boy was it beautiful! The breathtaking cliff location, amazing infinity ocean view backdrop, sweet tropical details, gorgeously vibrant palette and downright gorgeous images by Evermotion Photography makes me seriously happy. It’s one of those events that makes you smile as big as they come!
Bride Marley shares, “James and I met at a party about 10 years ago and we had some mutual friends so we would bump into one another from time to time. About three years later I moved into an apartment in the same street as James and we became good friends. Our friendship soon turned into a neighbourhood romance.”
“We had been together for 5 1/2 years when James popped the question. We’d been down at the beach all day and I had no idea that he had snuck the ring and a bottle of champagne along. He waited for the right moment but when we ran into my little sister and her partner – his plans for a romantic beach proposal were foiled! The next morning I was getting ready for work and noticed a gift bag on the kitchen table – he had left it there the day before when he was sneaking the ring and champagne out of the house without me noticing. When I asked what it was for he pulled out the ring, got on one knee and proposed to me in the lounge room. It was very sweet!”
“We live on the Gold Coast and so our wedding was inspired by our love for the coastal lifestyle spent at the beach and in the sun. We’ve travelled to Bali many times together and we love it there. There is nothing better than spending long days at the beach, surfing, taking in the beautiful scenery and drinking cocktails on the sand watching as the spectacular sunsets. So when we started planning our destination wedding we knew Bali was the perfect location.”
“It’s funny – getting married in Bali I really had thought that I’d be walking down the isle in something very simple and elegant – I never thought the big tulle dress was for me. I was shopping with another friend and once we found her perfect dress I decided that I should try a few dresses on. There was something about the princess style dress that we all fell in love with – It was the first dress and only dress I tried on – I bought it on the spot!”
“It was important for us to honour family members who we had recently lost, and make them part of our special day. James tragically lost his uncle just weeks before our wedding. His uncle had a love for the beach and the sea – he was an avid sailor. So I had a pair of sailing boat cuff links engraved and had his best man give them to him to wear on the day. I also carried photos of his uncle and my grandmother’s partner on my bouquet.”
“We liked the idea of hiring a private villa and having the ceremony and reception at the same location. Our guests had travelled such a long way to share in our special day, so we really wanted to treat them to an intimate, tropical and spectacular evening enjoying some of Bali’s most beautiful views. Villa Sinaran Surga was the perfect venue – the stunning cliff top views overlooking the crystal blue beaches of Bukit, a spectacular sunset, bright tropical flowers and plenty of cocktails shared with friends and family. By night we ate at long banquet style tables and danced under a beautiful canopy of fairly lights.”
